Baker adds icing to pink fundraiser buns
One Australind woman's journey with breast cancer was made that little bit easier thanks to Breast Cancer Network Australia and its Bakers Delight pink bun campaign.
As the brightly-coloured baked goods hit the shelves for another year, breast cancer survivor Laurae Delane said the money raised would greatly help people like her.
"To have that help when I was first diagnosed and I received the My Journey Kit was amazing," she said.
The My Journey Kit information pack - one of the services funded by BCNA from the money raised during the campaign - is provided to newly diagnosed people.
"I am absolutely passionate about this campaign as there is so much that Breast Cancer Network Australia provided to me through my experience with breast cancer," Ms Delane said.
In its 15th year, the partnership between BCNA and Bakers Delight is expected to reach a milestone in donations, with the Australia-wide bakery tipped to tally $15 million.
More than 12,000 My Journey kits are provided annually and BCNA chief executive officer Christine Nolan said the 100,000th kit was delivered this year.
"This impressive milestone would not have been achieved without the ongoing generosity of Bakers Delight franchises, staff and customers," she said.
Every day in Australia, 42 women on average are told they have breast cancer and seven lose their lives to the disease.
The pink buns will be on sale until June 3, with 100 per cent of sales going to BCNA.
