Recruiting, training and retaining staff are important priorities for businesses in the South West, according to Max Employment Solutions business manager Pete Palmer.

Mr Palmer said Max Employment’s main aim was to get people into long-term, secure employment.

“We want to help businesses in the region find government funding which is available to access for training purposes,” he said.

“Employers can always look at how they can value-add to their employees and we help businesses find new employees.”

Employers are being encouraged to attend a free event next Thursday at the Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries to find out how they can take advantage of government services available to benefit their business.

Traffic management company SJ Roadworks in Boyanup is a Recognised Training Organisation that offers training in Main Roads Accredited courses.

Mr Palmer said he had referred many clients to the traffic company because they could do their training on site and apply it to a job almost immediately.

SJ Roadworks operations manager Joel Robello said it was crucial people received the right training before going out on a job.

“If they don’t know what they are doing, then it’s simple as, they will get run over,” he said.

“It might all look easy but if you are not trained properly then you are putting yourself at risk.

“I can tell when I see people who have been trained properly compared to those who haven’t, it shows when they are out there on the road.”

Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries chief executive officer Ray Philp said the breakfast was a good opportunity for training organisations and employers to come together to see what was available to businesses.

Presenters will highlight what support services are available, wage subsidy initiatives and up-skilling assistance.

There will be an opportunity to meet with presenters and service providers.

The event is on August 4 from 7.45am to 9am. To register head to eventbrite.com.au and follow the prompts.
