Two of Bunbury’s eateries were honoured on Monday night at The Catering Institute of Australia’s Gold Plate Awards.

Caf-fez was awarded the 2014 Gold Plate in the Coffee Shop category, while Mojo’s Restaurant was awarded the Prix D’Honneur in the Licensed Casual Dining Regional category.

Ferguson Valley winery Hackersley Wines was also awarded the Restaurant within a Winery Regional Gold Plate on the night.

The Prix D’ Honneur award is given to the eatery which wins three consecutive gold plates in their category and maintain the high standards for a fourth year.

Mojo’s owner owner Juliana Frisina said the staff had been trying for a long time to win this award.

“We are over the moon, we are setting a standard for the customer and the staff,” she said.

“We won for a couple of years in a row, then lost and even changed categories.”

This was the seventh award the restaurant had won, after being awarded the Gold Plate in the Licensed Casual Dining Regional category in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013, as well as the Gold Plate award for Free Standing Cafe in 2006 and 2007.

Caf-fez is also a multiple award winner of the Gold Plate, after winning the same award eight years ago.

Owner Georgina Groves said the award meant a lot because they were up against every other cafe in the State.

“For us it means we are providing fantastic service, coffee and food,” she said.

“It is just reward for the hard work the girls do in there.

“It’s a small business and is now a top cafe.”

The annual event acknowledges the outstanding quality and service provided by restaurants throughout WA.
