Capel showcase for fresh, local produce

A passion for local produce and providing the best fruit and vegetables around has led to a Capel business owner beginning a new era for the town.

Goog’s Fruit and Veg owner Charmaine Wilson, along with her partner Dereck, have opened the store in the hope of showing off the region’s best produce, from groceries to gourmet homemade products such as jams.

Mrs Wilson said she had a passion for local produce and good customer service.

“I have always wanted to open my own business,” she said.

“I want to showcase as much of the local produce as you can.”

On Saturday the shop is having a gourmet tasting in store with products from the region’s best places such as Solar Fruits and Hann Jam.

The shopping area in Capel has become a bit of a family strip, with Mrs Wilson’s brother owning the butcher shop next door.

The Capel store has only been open for four weeks and is seeking more local growers to get on board.
