Centre given potential gift of life
Safety at Bunbury’s Dolphin Discovery Centre has been improved thanks to the donation of a defibrillator from the Cristal Mining Community Investment program.
Centre manager David Kerr said it had been fantastic the long supporters of the centre had provided them with a “much-needed” piece of equipment.
“We have a lot of visitors come through the centre, including people from overseas, elderly visitors as well as elderly volunteers and it’s important we have the appropriate fist aid equipment and protocols in place in case of accidents or illness,” he said.
“A defibrillator is something we have talked about getting and now that we have one, it will add to the safety of the centre.”
Cristal Community Investment committee member Sheryl Clarke said the defibrillator was purchased with money left over from its 2016 community grants program.
“We have long been supporters of the Dolphin Discovery Centre and knew that they were after a defibrillator,” she said.
Fellow committee member Tracey Hickmott said the company also had two members of the centre join them in an advanced resuscitation course, so staff were trained in using the defibrillator.
“A defibrillator is a valuable asset to have,” she said.
“We are committed to supporting the community where we can and our vision is to make a positive and lasting difference to the communities where we operate.”
