Bunbury residents could be hit with a raft of fines if they fail to obey rules under new waste laws.

The Bunbury City Council is set to submit the draft Waste Local Law 2016 for approval by the State Government at next week's meeting.

The new law will replace previous provisions in the council's Health Local Law.

The highest penalty residents could be hit with under the new law is $500 for putting toxic or poisonous waste in a bin.

Other offences include a $350 fine for putting the wrong waste in a bin.
