Bunbury City Council will again look into its sign policy after it rejected an application for a 54sq m illuminated sign.

After lengthy debate at last week’s council meeting, councillors voted down a request for the LED graphic display screen on a wall of the Retravision building at the corner of Blair Street and Sandridge and Albert roads.

While some councillors argued the sign was the “way of the future”, others said it would cause too much of a distraction.

It comes as debate surrounding the illuminated sign at the intersection of King and Sandridge roads last year prompted the council to review its signage and advertising policy.

During last week’s debate, Cr Brendan Kelly told the council approving the sign would have resulted in the intersection becoming “open slather” for other distracting signs.

The council’s existing policy allows for signs up to 20sq m in size.

After last week’s decision, the council voted for the Policy Committee to do another review into the sign policy.
