A forum to uncover possible container freight “players” in the South West will be held in the next month.

Bunbury Wellington Economic Alliance chief executive officer Matt Granger said a bright future for the port could be secured by the use of sea containers.

“It sounds like we have one or more major clients and I assume it relates to the minerals processing industry, with a very predictable, solid volume of trade,” he said.

“This forum is for prospective importers and exporters who might bring in containers, these include the wine industry and Southern Forests Food.

“We also need to look at what role government can play, it’s important they have it on their agenda.”

Mr Granger said it was “highly possible” Toll Group manager Jason Holmes had secured a big client who could make or break the plan for Bunbury Port’s containerisation.

Mr Holmes said they were working on the formal review process and had “commercial players involved”.

He has been working on a five-phase supply chain approval and Bunbury is phase four on the agenda.
