Bunbury’s latest residential development is expected to get the tick of approval from Bunbury City Council next week.

Owners of a block of vacant land next to the Sanctuary Golf Resort lodged their plans for the residential development in July this year.

The land is bound by the resort, Old Coast Road and Forrest Highway.

The council is expected to endorse the development at next week’s meeting after the advertising period came to an end.

Mayor Gary Brennan told theSouth Western Times the development was a positive move and he did not expect any opposition to it.

The development would become part of the tourism precinct with plans showing at least 17 one or two-storey townhouses.

The scheme amendment for the 0.7ha site would allow for short and long-term residential houses.

In an application to the council, plans show potential upgrades and extensions of the restaurant, bar and conference facilities at the resort.

Mr Brennan said the development would benefit Bunbury.

“It will give another accommodation choice for current and future residents,” he said.

“The site is well located and will add to our housing mix.

“Anything that adds to that housing mix is a positive thing.”

The development prompted a response from Main Roads WA, with the department recommending a noise assessment and mitigation measures be taken out.

The department has recently upgraded the Forrest Highway road surface following concerns from Eaton residents close to the resort site.

The department also requested a “memorial” be placed on the Certificate of Titles of future lots to advise of the potential for traffic noise from the highway.

“The subject land is located adjacent to a major highway and future interchange and possible future public transport link and is currently and will in the future be impacted by transport noise,” the Main Roads response said.

The application from the land owners claims the development will complement the existing short-stay accommodation and enhance the image of the resort and improve its appearance.
