A fresh new look, an international supermarket chain and more parking bays have given The Village Australind a competitive edge, according to centre manager Tracy Pitchers.

The facelift was prompted by a decline in visitors to the store. In May 2015 there were more than 4600 people through the centre each day compared to last month’s 3800 shoppers per day.

Last week German supermarket chain Aldi opened where the previous Home Timber and Hardware was located and it was expected this would boost numbers.

Ms Pitchers said the aim of the refurbishment was to make it family friendly to cater for the many young families living in the area.

“We have added 50 new wider car bays, LED lighting outside, a children’s nature playground – overall it’s a more inviting experience for the community,” she said.

“More takeaway food options have been added as well because there isn’t a lot in the area.”

The official opening is this Saturday and will include face painting, sausage sizzles and children will be able to have their photo taken with centre mascot Poppy the dog.
