Bunbury’s oldest shopping centre will officially be back in business tomorrow when a revamped 3800sq m Woolworths supermarket opens its doors.

An 18-month construction process has taken place since Bunbury City Plaza closed in April last year, although some speciality stores including Buckingham Meats have remained open during the renovations.

A formal ceremony plus giveaways, entertainment, a petting zoo and face painters are planned for tomorrow morning’s official opening.

Centre co-owner John Markotis praised the work of Perkins Builders for renovating the centre and said he was “ecstatic” with the process and final product.

“The feedback has been really positive throughout the process and we’re looking forward to opening,” Mr Markotis said.

“We’re ecstatic with the results and very proud of both our asset and of providing something that adds to the community.”

The centre, which was built in the 1960s, will have a new look when it opens.

A reconfiguration and expansion of the parking will provide 233 bays, many of which are on the Prosser Street side of the centre.

Three new tenants – a bakery, clothing store and sushi bar – will be among the 14 specialty stores.

Only one of these stores still remains vacant, according to leasing agent Alex Martin from JLL.

“From a construction perspective, we are very happy with what has been delivered,” Mr Martin said.

“It has been on time and had quality workmanship so Perkins has done a fantastic job in that regard.”
