Rail line closures 'betray motorists': McGowan

South Western Times

Opposition Leader Mark McGowan has added his voice to the growing chorus of condemnation for the State Government after it was revealed a further two Tier 3 rail lines will close at the end of the month.

The closure of Tier 3 rail lines will result in more trucks on regional roads, an outcome Mr McGowan labelled a “betrayal of motorists”.

“This was a key election issue, especially for grain farmers and motorists,” he said.

“The Liberal Party’s advertisements gave a clear impression that if elected, they would keep Tier 3 rail lines open.

“Colin Barnett is trying to use weasel words by claiming he only promised to keep viable Tier 3 rail lines open.

“Farmers and road users will be disgusted by this cynical excuse.”
