Trading continues despite collapse

The owners of Bunbury's Victoria Street-based Angus & Robertson book shop have assured customers it is business as usual after parent company REDgroup Retail was placed into voluntary administration yesterday.

Jarrod and Erica Tonkin said although there were concerns about the solvency of REDgroup Retail, which in 2010 posted a $43 million full-year loss, the “impact to the store would be minimal”.

The Tonkins have operated the bookstore under a franchise system for three-and-a-half years, one element Mr Tonkin said would help shield the store from REDgroup’s collapse.

“It’s business as usual; people aren’t going to come into the store and see less books or anything like that, we will continue to operate as we have been until more information is available,’’ Mr Tonkin said.

Angus & Robertson last year sold more than 50,000 books in Bunbury.
