Reel Talk with Ben O’Shea: Interview with Olivia DeJonge on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis movie biopic
Seven years before her appearance on the big screen this month as Priscilla Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s hotly anticipated Elvis biopic, Olivia DeJonge was holed-up in the bedroom of her parent’s Peppermint Grove home, preparing for the WACE exams at Presbyterian Ladies College.
Now, the 24-year-old has Hollywood knocking, with her portrayal of Priscilla coming hot on the heels of a fantastic performance in The Staircase, HBO’s true crime mini-series starring Colin Firth and fellow Aussie Toni Collette.
DeJonge and the real Priscilla Presley had no contact until the Cannes premiere last month, when the Perth actor found herself sitting next to Elvis’ widow at the screening.
It’s hard to imagine a more nerve-wracking scenario.
“It was really daunting, knowing that I was going to meet her, and I’m sure she felt the same,” DeJonge admits.
