Keith Urban has bowed out of The Voice, but Jessica Mauboy has confirmed she will definitely be in the hot seat looking for Australia’s next music star on the hit Channel 7 show.

The 33-year-old star revealed to The Sunday Times that she will be back for another season next year.

“The last few years have been quite incredible,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to coming back and obviously Keith won’t be with us, but he’s been waiting to tour too and I think he’s been in his prime element of wanting to showcase all the stuff he’s been working on. It’s been lovely to work with him.

“He’s a really cool, chilled fella, and I’ve loved being in his company.”

Mauboy has been in the public eye since she was 16, but there’s one thing she has been able to keep close to her chest, and that’s her love life.

The two-time ARIA award winner tied the knot to her long-term partner Themeli Magripilis earlier this year and she opened up about their romance.

“It’s been a long time coming,” she says with a smile.

“We always spoke about it (getting married) and we would talk about how strong our families are and they get along really well.”

The pair have been together for 14 years and both are Darwin locals. But Mauboy admits she didn’t know if their relationship would work.

“I knew I was going to be a traveller, I knew I was always going to be in this lifestyle,” she says.

“I was always on edge of ‘I don’t know if this is gonna work’... I think it really helped that he didn’t know who I was and we made a pact that we were going to create this relationship and keep it alive.

“He’s such a good fella and I think it really helps that he doesn’t work in the music industry.”

Although she’s in newlywed bliss, fans won’t get a lot of love songs from her.

But she did point to one song with an unconfirmed title.

“It’s a really beautiful song ... there’s nothing like a really great sad song, slow song, that puts you in a state to free your mind,” she teased.

Fans can get a taste of her new music at her upcoming Perth show.

After many delays as a result of the pandemic, the chart-topper will finally return to WA when she performs at Perth Concert Hall on November 3.

“Obviously during the period of 2020 I was meant to go on tour, and In 2021 I didn’t quite get there,” she said.

“But early this year I got to present the Boss Lady Tour. Through the two years I was really able to get the tour right ... it was wonderful to spend a little bit more time to get it right.”

Tickets are now on sale.
