Fremantle teenager Tyroe Muhafidin has wowed on the red carpet for the global premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Proving that he likes to push fashion boundaries, the 17-year-old wore a white suit with blue graffiti and accessorised it with a white knitted balaclava.

Muhafidin is on the brink of mega-stardom after snagging the role of Theo, the son of Bronwyn, a human “healer” and single mum who becomes central to the story that unfolds in The Rings of Power.

He joined almost 2000 people who packed the historic Leicester Square for the lavish event at the famous Odeon Luxe cinemas, which included a 2000-foot ring-shaped carpet, a living forest installation featuring 100 mature trees, and a hand-crafted 40-foot-tall structure representing the five realms depicted in the series.

It was the final stop on a five-city tour to showcase the most expensive television project in history, which reportedly cost Amazon close to $1 billion to produce.

Other guests included Amazon’s billionaire founder Jeff Bezos and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, as well as all 22 of the show’s central cast members including Sir Lenny Henry, Morfydd Clarke, Leon Wadham and Nazanin Boniadi. Also in attendance were fellow Australians Markella Kavenagh and Sara Zwangobani.

The long-awaited eight-episode series serves as a prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy books which were previously adapted into blockbuster film trilogies by New Zealand director Peter Jackson.

Filmed primarily in New Zealand and planned as a five-season arc, The Rings of Power is based on the extensive appendices in The Lord of the Rings, with its story set in Middle Earth’s fabled Second Age, a time thousands of years before the events of the books.

The plot follows an ensemble cast of characters, including some faces that Tolkien fans will recognise, as they grapple with the reemergence of evil in Middle Earth.

The first two episodes will premiere in Australia at 9am AWST on Friday on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.
