Last year, three out of four Lexus sales in Australia were of electrified vehicles, which includes hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs).

Lexus Australia has confirmed an all-time record share for electrified vehicles, with 10,164 out of its 13,642 vehicles delivered last year featuring some form of electrification.

That equates to 74.5 per cent of overall Lexus sales Down Under in 2024, up from 60.4 per cent in 2023 and 46.3 per cent in 2022.

Of those 10,100 electrified vehicles, 9506 units were conventional hybrids, 351 were PHEVs, and 307 were EVs.

Much of the electrified drive was spearheaded by the brand’s popular NX SUV, emulating (to a lesser extent) the success of the related Toyota RAV4.

Lexus Australia says 77.9 per cent of the NX’s 6123 deliveries (or 4768 units) were accounted for by NX350h hybrid and NX450h+ plug-in hybrid models.

The larger RX SUV had fewer overall sales but a higher share of electrified sales, quoting 80.7 per cent share accounted for by RX350h and RX500h F Sport Performance models.

Further, the all-hybrid LBX compact crossover and LM people mover ranges contributed 1470 deliveries and 298 deliveries in 2024 respectively.

Since Lexus’s electrified journey began in 2006 with the GS450h and RX400h, the Japanese luxury brand has delivered 56,490 electrified vehicles in Australia.

Despite the rising uptake of electrified vehicles among Lexus Australia customers, the company recently said it plans to continue to offer customers a choice between electrified and conventional petrol and diesel vehicles.

“Our customers will pretty much tell us when they’re ready to move more into electrified powertrains by what they buy. We’re not going to rush customers in that decision,” a spokesperson told CarExpert in November.

“We’re going to wait and see what customers are telling us by way of orders and with cars they purchase.”
