Entrepreneurial students at Albany Secondary Education Support Centre have transformed a donated shipping container into a dedicated donation point and workspace for recycling and processing containers.

Donated by the Lionetti Family, the sea container has been given a fresh coat of paint and fitted with new signage, interior work benches, a can crusher, and personal protective equipment.

Funds raised by ASESC students for the Containers for Change program in 2024 have gone towards a new gym and regulation space, providing a safe space to process their emotions.

Students also sort and process donated containers for the program, with adult support, and donate the proceeds to a student-chosen local charity.

In 2023, students sorted more than 30,000 containers and donated $1000 to Fishability Albany.

ASESC teacher Jacob Butler said the dedicated regulation space is working like an “absolute dream” for the students.

“We had students storming around the site, they had all this energy and no output for it,” he said.

“We’ve staffed this for break times as well so they can come down and just get away from the rest of the school and just have that time and space to really help them.”

Mr Butler hopes the North Albany and wider Albany school community will use the dedicated donation point situated on Anson Road.
