Margaret River surfers will defend WA’s honour at this weekend’s Australian Junior National Titles in Wollongong.

The WA surf team is a who’s who of up-and-coming Capes talent, with the final competitor list released this week ahead of competition, starting from Sunday, November 24.

The WA side includes young chargers coming off hot form, including Ruby Berry who recently claimed a major title at GromSearch on the east coast, and Willow Hardy who was poised for another big score in the She’s Electric online national surfing competition.

The boys will be led by State champions including Okie Fraser and Dunsborough’s Cruz Uros.

Other State champions include Margaret River girls Olive Hardy and Ily Fraser.

Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the team would be one to watch.

“The Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles is the pinnacle event of its kind in the country and one that every young surfer is striving to get to,” he said.

“Wollongong is an exciting location with a great variety of spots, and we wish our team the very best of luck.

“WA performed really strongly when we were last on Phillip Island and I think this year’s team of talented young surfers have the ability and determination to impress amongst the county’s best.”

The event starts with the opening ceremony, and the action rages all week, depending on weather, with finals expected to wrap up by December 2.

As well as individual heroics, the competition will feature various divisions, including under-14, under-16, and under-18 age groups, alongside the All-Stars and MR Shield Schools divisions.
