Capes surfers travelling north for King and Queen of the Point at Trigg Beach

Some of the Capes’ best surfers are travelling north in a bid to claim royal titles.
The King and Queen of the Point will be decided at Trigg Beach this weekend in heats starting on March 28 as the historic competition returns for 2025.
Last year’s contest saw Geraldton’s Jake Hagan and Yallingup’s Claire Bevilacqua ordained to the regal titles. Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said this weekend’s competition was looking just as hot.
“With over $10,000 in prize money on the line, competitors will charge into battle across a variety of divisions, from the prestigious King and Queen of the Point to the Lords, Dukes, Princes, Princesses and even the Jesters of the Point — each vying for their own moment of triumph,” he said.
“But the stakes are even higher for the elite, as the champions of the King and Queen divisions will earn a golden ticket to the 2025 WA Local Trials for the World Surf League Margaret River Pro, bringing them one step closer to the international stage.”
For the women, Margaret River’s Ruby Berry is among the odds-on favourites for the title, coming fresh off her win at the recent WA Surf Masters Championships held on home territory.
Other elite challengers for the crown include former winner Emma Cattlin, Kaelisha Launders and Grace Cook.
Capes surfers are also in the running for the men’s titles.
While Hagan is expected to return to defend his crown, a powerful line-up of challengers includes in-form surfers such as Jack Mitchell and Macklin Flynn from Margaret River, as well as Dunsborough’s Maverick Wilson, while Trigg’s own favourites — Luke Campbell, Jake Molloy and Fletcher Llanwarne — will also be determined to keep the title on home turf.
Majeks said the weekend offered a “tricky” forecast, with conditions calling upon surfers’ skills and experience.
