Firefighters will have better conditions for battling the Waroona Fire today, with the weather bureau confirming conditions had eased.

Some 143 properties, including 128 houses as well as sheds, caravans and community buildings, have been destroyed in Yarloop and a further threat to lives and homes remains in the region today.

After days of strong winds, the bureau told the South Western Times the weather conditions had improved in the region.

BOM spokesman said the dry north-easterly winds had eased.

“That has all really settled down now,” he said.

“Today we are looking at a light westerly throughout the day today. It will probably increase throughout the afternoon.

“There are no significant wind changes expected, so that should make managing the fire easier.

“It is all pretty settled.”
