Tamara Lorimer: Broome woman accused of killing girlfriend in drink-driving tragedy pleads not guilty

A Broome woman accused of killing her girlfriend in a drink-driving tragedy in November has pleaded not guilty in WA’s Supreme Court. Tamara Lorimer, 43, faced court on October 10 via video link charged with unlawful killing after she allegedly ran over her partner, Doreen-Joan Lindsay, 35, at a Cable Beach home on Sunday, November 14, 2021 after an afternoon of heavy drinking. Ms Lorimer pleaded not guilty to the charge, with trial now set for June 19-23, 2023. In Ms Lorimer’s initial court appearance in November 2021, it was alleged Ms Lorimer decided she would drive to the local shops and chose to leave Ms Lindsay at the address, as she was “visually intoxicated”. Ms Lorimer did not notice Ms Lindsay behind her car when she reversed down the driveway, allegedly with a blood alcohol content four times the legal limit. It was alleged Ms Lindsay was struck by and then dragged under the vehicle. The court was told Ms Lorimer jumped out of the car when she noticed what had happened and attended to Ms Lindsay who had suffered “significant injuries”. Ms Lindsay was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she was pronounced deceased. In Ms Lorimer’s first appearance, Magistrate Stephen Sharratt said Ms Lorimer had “a great number of road traffic offences” to her name. Ms Lorimer in September lost her licence for 42 months for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Tributes for Ms Lindsay, a well-known Broome local who worked at the hospital and played for Towns Football Club alongside Ms Lorimer. “Doreen was the most beautiful happy person. Love and hugs to her kids and family,” one reader posted. “My heart aches for both families so much, I know how much you love her Tammy,” said another. “RIP beautiful Doors, your happy, bubbly smiling face will be sadly missed around Broome Hospital and the community,” a colleague posted. Ms Lorimer’s bail was renewed, with the case set for status conference on February 16, 2023.
