South West business leaders learn from the best in inaugural conference as part of 12-month mentoring program

Established and emerging business leaders have had the opportunity to hone their skills and gain some valuable insights during a South West-first conference. The Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently held its inaugural South West Leaders Conference at the Quality Hotel Lighthouse last Thursday. The conference was attended by 110 people, ranging from CEOs and executives to emerging leaders in local businesses, where they got to hear keynote speeches from an impressive line-up of leaders including West Coast Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett, South West District Superintendent Geoff Stewart, Reboot Mindset Coaching leadership consultant Leanne Shaw, and emotional intelligence specialist Amy Jacobson. As part of a 12-month mentoring program provided by BGCCI, the conference aimed to provide individuals with a rich and supportive learning environment to challenge their current way of thinking around their potential from personal growth to professional development and career progression. Following the conference, Supt Stewart said organisers were “pleased” with the turnout. “The numbers attending, their intent to learn and take something away from it, matched by quality speakers who ranged from providing simple strategies, tips and advice plus moving personal stories, delivered an inspiring day,” he said. “The program concept works magnificently and will see it evolve even further in terms of numbers and opportunities for organisations in the South West. “The personal and professional growth for individuals means better people, better teams, better leaders and better communities”. Brecken Heath Care’s Dr Brenda Murrison said she was very impressed after attending the inaugural conference. “The quality of the speakers was fantastic,” she said. “I have attended many conferences and this one was one of the few that really engaged with the audience. “Everyone there would have taken away practical tips, podcasts, books and other things to Google and follow up on.” Almost 20 organisations within the South West region came together in a joint initiative to provide their employees and members with the opportunity to take part in the program. The program also provides the opportunity for participants to maximise their potential and develop new skills, with mentees paired with mentors from differing backgrounds to enhance diversity and maximise learning. The South West Leaders program is also set to focus on a series of monthly topics supported by content from newsletters, online forums and recorded webinars as well as regular networking events such as breakfasts and sundowners.
