Cyclist killed, multiple injured after car strike in Armidale, New South Wales

A cyclist has been killed and several others left injured after the group was struck by a car on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Long Swamp Rd in Armidale about 3.30pm.

A yet-to-be formally identified male cyclist died at the scene while three other cyclists were injured.

The female driver of the car crashed into a tree and was briefly trapped before emergency services arrived.

According to NSW Police the conditions of those injured is “unknown” at this stage.

“Officers from New England Police District have established a crime scene, which will be examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit,” a spokesperson said.

“As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue, police are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

According to NSW Ambulance the driver and one of the cyclists were flown to John Hunter Hospital.

“Two cyclists were transported by road to Armidale hospital, while a third cyclist has been taken to Armidale airport,” a spokesperson said.

“The driver, a woman in her 40s, is in a critical condition.”
