Meadow Springs fire: Community fundraiser raises more than $32,000 after four-year-old boy dies in house fire

The Perth community has rallied behind the family of a four-year-old boy who was killed in a tragic house fire just days before Christmas, with an online fundraiser already raising more than $32,000. Teresa Heslewood — who is understood to be the little boy’s grandmother — launched a GoFundMe on Monday for her daughter, Natasha, to help “recover and rebuild” their lives after the devastating house fire tragically claimed the life her “little angel” and destroyed their Meadows Springs home on Sunday. “This tragic house fire has taken her son and destroyed all their belongings,” the fundraiser said. “They are now facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. “This is a heartbreaking time for them and they urgently nee d support for basic essentials like clothing, food, temporary housing, funeral expenses, as well as help to start over. “We are reaching out to our friends, family and community to ask for your kindness and generosity.” The fundraiser — which has a target amount of $50,000 — has already raised $32,000. It is believed the boy’s parents were out shopping for Christmas presents on Sunday when the fire started, with his teenage brother injured trying to rescue him. His young sister was also injured in the fire but both were discharged from hospital on Monday morning. In the hours after the tragedy, Christmas lights and tinsel remained hanging on the only portion of the home not left gutted by the blaze as the arson squad combed through the remnants of the home. The West Australian understands authorities are investigating if the children were playing with a lighter in a bedroom before the fire started. Natasha Farthing delivered kids clothes, Christmas gifts and toiletries to the family on Monday after they were donated from members of the the local community. “They are broken,” Ms Farthing told The West. “Devastating doesn’t even cover it.” “They are beyond grateful (for the support). “Keep them in your prayers.” The link to the GoFundMe can be found here.
