As they prepare for presentation night, La Fiamma captain Lachlan Gray has reflected on the season that was, saying he is proud of his team’s achievements.

After coming off a strong finish to 2023, the locals expected nothing short of what they produced in the back half of last year. And winning all of their last seven rounds along with strong recruiting in the off-season, excitement was building as the club set their sights on 2024.

Indeed La Fiamma surged into the 2024 season with a strong start, finding themselves sitting in the top half of the table with eyes on promotion.

But untimely injuries saw La Fiamma fighting to get wins on the board with Gray admitting lack of depth placed the club in a tough spot.

“We picked up a lot of injuries later in the season,” he said.

“We didn’t have the squad depth to pick from and had to travel down to Perth with minimal numbers.”

However, even with their backs against the wall, La Fiamma proved to be a major problem with some sizeable results, defeating the likes of Swan Valley, Wanneroo and Murdoch Melville.

With the disadvantage of having to travel to Perth every second week, playing at home proved to be a fortress with La Fiamma only dropping two games. This resilience to continue to go out and perform, even with an undermanned team, allowed La Fiamma to finish in a respectable position of fifth.

To wrap up the season for all La Fiamma teams, a presentation night will be held at the club on Saturday, November 16.
