Denmark claimed the environment award for the second year running at the 24th annual GWN7 Top Tourism Awards in Perth on Friday, September 20.

The award, sponsored by West Australian Regional Newspapers, recognises consideration for the preservation of the natural environment, while utilising it as a drawcard for tourism.

Denmark Tourism Inc. chief executive Justine Nagorski said the award would help the town realise its true potential as one of the State’s leading tourist destinations.

“It is absolutely fantastic,” she said.

“We are a small town and very proud to be winning major tourism awards year after year.

“Denmark is known for its pristine environment and its natural experiences … visitors can hike, climb, canoe, walk the Bibbulmun track and cycle to Mundabiddi Trail so I can understand why we have won the environment award for the second year in a row.”

Ms Nagorski said the award would act as a drawcard for the town.

“As nature-based and eco-tourism grows it is good to be winning awards for the environment because it is the largest growing segment (of the industry) globally, so being a destination known for its environment they will be looking out for us,” she said.

Denmark also topped Kununurra, Fremantle, Esperance, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Armadale and Carnarvon to be a finalist for the top tourism town award, alongside other southern regional towns Busselton and Margaret River.

Margaret River won top tourism town, while Dunsborough won the award for top tourism town for a population of less than 5000.
