Firearms missing after rural raids
Police fear 25 firearms are loose in the community after a series of burglaries of rural properties in the South West and Great Southern regions.
South West Detectives officer-in-charge Det. Sen. Sgt Dom Blackshaw today made an appeal for information after 32 firearms were stolen from nine properties between February 5 and March 2.Det. Sen. Sgt Blackshaw said police have recovered seven firearms but fears the rest may have been sold or given away.
Police are also concerned keys were left next to gun cabinets, making the thefts easier.
"We are very keen to get information from the public that may lead us to the missing weapons," Det. Sen. Sgt Blackshaw said.A 20-year-old Mount Barker man accused of burglary and a number of offences is due to appear in the Albany Magistrates Court on April 9.
