Warriors prepare for an upcoming showdown with Harvey for the Ben Ward Cup

Waroona Warriors A grade had a bye this weekend and are ready for their second round of T20s, this Tuesday at Halls Head, against Harvey, for The Ben Ward Cup. Waroona’s D grade had an impressive win at home against White Knights Blue. The Knights managed to survive the bowling of the Warriors and bat out their 45 overs. Joe Catalano took 2-21 off his eight overs and Caleb Lewis took 2-13 off five. Waroona went out to bat and made short work of the 128 scored. They reached 130 in 22.1 overs with seven wickets in hand to secure two bonus points. Reagan Davis came out, bat blazing, hitting 43 off 43 with the help of Zac Moody’s 44 not out. The F grade had a great game against Singleton. While the young Warriors may have not won, a majority of their bowlers took two wickets each and Coen Walmsley top scored with 40. Waroona’s D and F teams will now go into their mid-season T20 competition. The Waroona women showed the future is bright at the club, with the weekend producing their best game to date, only losing three wickets after their 20 overs and scoring 72. The White Knights took until the 17th over to win the game. Harvey-Benger Cricket Club and Waroona Cricket Club will play each other in the Retravision Premier T20 League on Tuesday night, continuing the traditional annual game between both clubs for the Ben Ward Cup. Previous matches were played in more of a social manner, but this match will see both teams field strong sides. Harvey-Benger will welcome quality top-order bat Tyrone Virgo and exciting all-rounder Tanishk Chethan who play WACA first grade for Mt Lawley Cricket Club. Harvey-Benger also will add Rob Turner (Leschenault Cricket Club) and Harley Italiano (Collie Cricket Club) to their list. Ben Ward grew up and played much of his prolific career with Waroona Cricket Club in the Peel Cricket Association. When he left Waroona Cricket Club, he joined Harvey Benger as a player coach. The T20 starts at 6.30pm under lights at Peelwood Reserve in Halls Head.
