Call for men to 'frock up'

South Western Times

It started as an off-the-cuff remark at a fundraising gig last weekend but now Evan Robinson will be strutting his stuff along Victoria Street on Saturday night to raise money for the Cancer Council.

The burly builder from Bunbury will don a stunning wedding dress and matching headgear after being offered $1000 to walk the mean streets of Bunbury in the name of charity.

But Mr Robinson — who heads up local reggae band Skeleton Jump— is hoping to raise more money with the help of any other local blokes keen to frock up for a good cause.

The group will waltz from the Eliot Street Bar at about 8pm and stop in at every pub on Victoria Street for donations from punters, finishing up at the Burlington Hotel where Robinson’s band will hit the stage for a couple of tunes.

The cause is one particularly close to Mr Robinson’s heart after losing his sister to cancer.

All money raised from the walk will go to the Bunbury-based Relay for Life team. Headed by Lara Hebbend, theteam has already raised more than $23,000 for the cause.

Ms Hebbend said it was inspiring to see someone like Mr Robinson who was ready to do anything to raise money for a good cause.

However, she said one of the biggest challenges had been finding a dress big enough for the strapping tradesman which still left plenty to the imagination.
