Eaton's coming of skipping age

South Western Times

Skipping for a great cause is what some students at Eaton Primary School did last Friday in an effort to raise awareness and money for the Heart Foundation.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser and the 21st time Eaton Primary has participated.

Since 1992 Eaton Primary has participated in the event every second year and has managed to raise almost $40,000.

Principal Rod Harrison hoped the school would be able to add $3000 to its tally this year.

He said the school encouraged the Year 3-5 children to raise money and get involved in the fitness side of the event.

“We work skipping into the physed curriculum,” he said.

“So the kids who don’t fundraise get to be involved as well.

“The kids really enjoy it and it is really good for their body too.”

Year 5 teacher Margi Roberts said the students had been keen to get involved in the skipping fundraiser.

“The kids have been very excited,” she said.

“They have been practising nearly every day.”

Year 5 student Zara Beattie, who managed to raise $12, said she liked raising money for such a good cause.

“It can help save lots of lives,” she said.
