Get your pancake on for SIDS and Kids
Growing on the success of last year’s Pancake Run for SIDS and Kids, a group of mothers is hoping for an even bigger turn out at this Sunday’s event in Dalyellup.
The second annual fun run, held in the honour of Cassandra Quick and supported by the Bunbury Runners Club, will be followed by a pancake breakfast, raffle and appearances from the Boogie Roos and Dalyellup Primary school circus students.
All funds raised will go to SIDS and Kids, an organisation which supports families affected by accidental or sudden death of children.
Dalyellup mother Maria Quick and her husband Andrew lost their daughter Cassandra to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in July 2011.
Three-month-old daughter Cassie died unexpectedly in her sleep, leaving the couple shocked and confused.
In Australia each year more than 3500 families experience the unexpected death of a baby or child and for many of the deaths there is no known cause.
Mrs Quick said she would always be searching for the reason for her daughter’s death.
“The most important thing is to find the answer to help prevent other kids from dying,” she said.
Born at Bunbury’s St John of God Hospital on December 17, 2012, Mrs Quick’s newborn Emily Cassandra, given her middle name in honour of her sister, has helped ease the Quick family’s pain.
Organiser Janine Eriksson said she it was important to find out the causes and reasons for SIDS to help the coming generations.
The 10km and 5km fun run and 3km walk and pram push, to be held on April 15 in Dalyellup, has been organised by mothers who are passionate about the issue.
