New cat laws target strays

South Western Times

Unregistered cats will be put down once the City of Bunbury finds the best way to impound the cats and humanely kill the stray animals.

The new cat control laws will not be implemented until it is costed and the city explores the option of sharing the task with neighbouring local governments.

The council has received support for the new laws from members of the community who say feral cats do significant damage to the region’s native wildlife.

The new laws would also include compulsory microchipping, registration and sterilisation of domestic cats.
