RSL launch Poppy Appeal for Remembrance Day

South Western Times

Bunbury's RSL members have been busy organising about 9000 poppies for their annual Poppy Appeal ahead of Remembrance Day next week.

The internationally recognised symbol for remembrance will be on sale around Bunbury tomorrow, at schools, nursing homes, hospitals, offices and shopping centres.

RSL Poppy Appeal organiser Eric Prime is encouraging the community to look out for collection containers and buy a poppy.

“It’s a tradition very much part of Australian culture and it is important to remember all the sacrifices made,” he said.

“A donation is all we ask.”

The money raised will go into a fund to help Diggers and other service personell.

Each year, the Bunbury RSL holds a service on Remembrance Day to commemorate the end of World War I on November 11.

People will be able to wear their poppy proudly at the service on Monday which will be held alongside the war memorial starting at 10.45am.
