'You have to believe ...'

South Western Times

There might not be many similarities between leukaemia and riding a bike, but Bunbury residents David Frazer and George Paszkudzki said perseverance was one.

The pair rode their mountain bikes in a gruelling nine-hour trek, from Bunbury to Perth last Friday, to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s Light the Night event.

Mr Paszkudzki said the ride was a mental and physical challenge.

“It’s like leukaemia, you have to believe you can make it through,” he said

“It was a hard ride, but it was all for a worthwhile cause.

“We also managed to stop off and have a pie and take in the beautiful scenery.”

The ride began at Bunbury’s Pat Usher foreshore and finished around Leach Highway in Perth.

This is the second year the duo has put on the yellow lycra for Light the Night and so far they have managed to raise more than $900.

Mr Frazer said donations were still open and encouraged people to support the event.

“We love cycling, we cycle everywhere so what better way to raise money for something we are passionate about?” he said.

“Cycling is good fun and great exercise and we would love to see more people come along for the ride.

“To make a donation got to www.lightthenight. org.au/, click donate and search Bunno2Perth.”

A community Light the Night event will be held on October 12 at the Bunbury Trotting Club.
