Zac's Disney wish granted
Zachariah Davies’ dream of going to Disney World is set to come true with a generous community donating more than $50,000.
At fundraising events on Saturday and Monday night, the final tally to get the six-year-old to Disney World was revealed.
Fundraiser Paul Duffy, a real estate agent and auctioneer, said Saturday’s Play in the Park and Monday night’s auction at Barbados were a huge success.
Instead of auctioning off houses, Mr Duffy was auctioning off a number of items from queen size mattresses, remote controlled cars and vouchers to restaurants and day spas.
Businesses donated their goods and services to help get Zachariah and his family to Disney World, after the Davies family was informed that Zachariah’s cancerous tumour was not responding to treatment.
But cancer treatment was far from Zachariah’s mind on Saturday while he was enjoying the Play in the Park, held at the Eaton Foreshore.
Zachariah’s dad Jeramy Davies said Zachariah enjoyed having his face painted and jumped around on the bouncy castle.
Lollies and ice cream were also on the menu for the Millbridge boy who got to kick the soccer ball around with his dad on the day.
After a setback this weekend which saw Zachariah return to Princess Margaret Hospital, the family are booking the tickets for their three-week holiday this week.
The family expressed their gratitude to the community and asked them to now consider charities such as the Make-A-Wish Australia or Starlight Children’s Foundation if they wished to donate.
The Davies family leave for Disney World in January.
