Lucy Fiore was a key benefactor of Goldfields trainer Peter Fernie’s juggernaut that rolled on at last Sunday’s Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club meeting.

Fernie’s dominant campaign at the KBRC continued when he grabbed six of the seven winners, including four with Fiore in the saddle.

It was a purple patch that edged Fiore closer to Natasha Faithfull in a battle for the KBRC’s jockey of the year award.

Faithfull continues to lead the way, but her advantage was cut to just four points as the major cups loom — starting with the Kambalda Cup on August 11.

Fiore last weekend opened her account aboard Sunshine Tafe ($1.80 favourite) in race two and repeated the dose with Fernie runners Duo Muso ($3.80), Brazen Empress ($4.40) and Dance Of Thunder ($3.80).

Chanel Cooper piloted Fernie’s remaining winners — Edwards’s Choice ($3.10 favourite) and Kick A Goal Son ($7.50).

Fernie’s bid for a clean sweep ended in race three when the David Smith-trained Total Lockdown ($17) won over 1100m with Jordan Turner in the saddle.

As Faithfull and Fiore remain in an absorbing battler for jockey of the year, Fernie has streaked ahead for trainer of the year with 42 wins.

His nearest rival, Paul Tapper, has six wins.

In the battle for leading strike rate trainer, Fernie is showing the way at 21.9 per cent from Gary Bowen (16 per cent).
