Matt Priest carded a score of 47 out of 50 to grab a three-shot victory over Brendon Vodden in the recent 50-target tower event at the Eastern Goldfields Clay Target Club.

Kingsley Smith was a further two shots back in third place from Marty Miles and Mark Normington, who were tied on 40.

Andrew Twigg (26) edged out Greg Smith (25) for the combined B/C-grade trophy.

Miles (41/50) headed the 50 ball trap field from Andrew and Jackie Twigg (32), and newcomers Bruce Pallant and Steve Leon (25).

Matt Iwankiw (114/125) comfortably won the annual champion of champions event.

Miles (101) and Jack Saville (99) filled the minor placings, and the B-grade and C-grade honours went to Sue Kamo (86) and Arthur Ward (82).

The 25 handicap event also went to Iwankiw (22/25) from Priest and Miles (21 /25).

Iwankiw and Royce Normington were the standout competitors at last month’s annual Festival of Clays Tournament in Perth that drew 70 competitors.

They each won two events — Iwankiw heading the 60-target medley with a perfect 100 points.

Normington repeated the feat in the second event, scoring 150/150 in the 50-points score championship.

Iwankiw shrugged off the wind and rain with another perfect score in the third event, the 30 single-barrel championship.

It was decided in a shoot-off with Iwankiw upstaging Perth’s Stephen Gee.

Normington was one shot behind with 29/30.

In the fourth event, 50 double-barrel, Normington shot yet another perfect 50/50 alongside Carnarvon’s Paul Luis, who eventually won the shoot-off.

Event five was also decided across 50-point score and Normington top scored with 143/150 with three points to spare.

He capped off a superb weekend by winning the coveted Overall High Gun by a whopping 20 points.
