The Printsync South West Slammers’ season has gone from bad to worse, with coach Michael Van Lit confirming in-form big man Trent Worthington will miss a number of weeks with a groin injury.

Van Lit told theSouth Western Times that Worthington looked to have torn a muscle in his groin during the last quarter of the Slammers’ clash with the Rockingham Flames on Friday night.

“We are not going to know the full impact until the swelling goes down,” he said.

“He is going back to the physiotherapist later this week and we will know more then.”

The loss of Worthington is a massive blow for the Slammers, who are struggling with just four wins from 12 matches.

Worthington has averaged more than 11 rebounds from his 10 matches so far this season, bringing him to ninth on the State Basketball League rebound leader board.

The Slammers play the Stirling Senators this Saturday night at Warwick Stadium and Van Lit admits the loss of Worthington will affect the team’s structure.

“With Trent out we are going to have to play more of a zone than we would like to,” he said.

Van Lit said rising star Travis Durnan would play a bigger role in the four spot.
