A punter almost missed out on his six-figure winnings after leaving a Super66 ticket hanging on the fridge for almost a year.

The Mandurah man bought the ticket on January 13 then hung on it his fridge, where it was largely forgotten about.

It was only on a routine trip to the chemist that he was finally prompted to check the ticket — with only five weeks left before it lapsed.

“I just kept thinking, ‘I’ll check it next month’, and then the next month would come and I’d think the same thing again,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it when I finally checked — not only did I win but I claimed my prize just in time!”

The man, aged in his 30s, said her planned to plough the winnings into his house.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Zoe Wender said finding the owner of the missing ticket was fantastic news.

“This player is going to have an extra special Christmas this year,” she said.

“What wonderful news, made even sweeter by getting in just five weeks before this ticket was going to expire.

“Players have 12 months from the draw date to claim prizes.

“This is a great reminder to check your tickets regularly and register tickets to a Lotterywest membership so we can get in contact with you if you’ve got a winning ticket.

“Just imagine having a winning ticket stuck to your fridge for almost the entire year.”
