Man, 50, killed after fall during police operation in Wollongong
A man has died days after he was seriously injured after falling from a building during a police operation south of Sydney.
Police were called to the third-floor unit on Bligh St in Wollongong about 7.30am on December 18 as part of an ongoing investigation.
As police arrived, a 50-year-old man fell when he allegedly attempted to climb down the building.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics for facial, head, and spine injures before being rushed to Wollongong Hospital.
He was subsequently airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition; tragically, police were notified midday on Saturday the man had since died.
A critical incident team from the South Coast Police District has since been formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police will prepare a report regarding the man’s death for the information of the coroner.
The incident will also be subject to an independent review.
