Manjimup 15,000 set to return in June for first time in two years to Cosy Creek Motocross Track in Balbarrup
An event dubbed the “Olympics of motocross” is set to return to the South West later this year after a two-year hiatus.
The Manjimup 15,000 will make its comeback at Balbarrup’s Cosy Creek Motocross Track over the June WA Day long weekend, with hundreds expected to take part in this year’s event.
Ex-motorcycle racing champion and Dirt High Promotions owner Willie Thomson said this year’s event will be the biggest on record.
“The reaction we have had on social media has been incredible, we already have over 25,000 views on our announcement video we put out in December,” he said.
“I think what is getting riders is excited is not only the Manjimup 15,000 but the new mountain biking track we are putting in for the weekend. That’s going to be massive.”
One of the major changes for this year’s event is a WA-first downhill mountain biking event under lights, which will take place on the second day of activities.
The mountain biking track has been designed by eight-time world champion Sam Hill, staring at the top of Rock and Roll Hill and then running through the campsite to give the event a carnival-like atmosphere.
A number of world class riders, including former winner Regan Duffy, have confirmed they will be participating in this year’s event.
Riders will rev up their engines on May 31, with hundreds of bikes taking to the track for juniors practice in the morning before the seniors are given their opportunity in the afternoon.
The opening ceremony will take place in the evening at Manjimup’s Tall Timbers Brewery, with fans to be given the opportunity to meet their favourite riders.
Competition racing begins on June 1 with the juniors and old stars competition, before the new event-stopper takes place.
The weekend concludes on June 2 with the main event, with the best of the best competing to see who will be this year’s champion.
Entries to the Manjimup 15,000 will open on March 30. For more information visit the Dirt High Promotions website.
