Two new cabins are coming to the Wandering Caravan Park, with the Shire of Wandering inspired by a community forum and cabin designs featured in Narrogin.

The idea for extra accommodation first started at a community forum hosted by the Shire in July 2020.

At the forum, many community members expressed a desire for more short-stay accommodation options in Wandering.

“People can stay in caravans but we don’t have anything for short-term accommodation,” Shire chief executive Belinda Knight said.

“So if we have a tradesman or a sales rep that need to overnight some-where ... there is extremely limited accommodation.”

An application for the first cabin was submitted to the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program last September.

Then, with a second round of funding coming in later months, the Shire successfully applied for a second cabin.

“They’re fully accessible, they’re transportable. Modular WA is building them for us so the idea is we’ve got a future plan to hopefully put up to five cabins down there,” Ms Knight said.

“We actually went to the Narrogin Caravan Park to look at their units because they’ve got exactly the same units that we’re putting in here ... and we thought ‘that’s what we want’.

“The accessibility of them is fantastic, so anybody in a wheelchair or a pram or any level of access can actually get in and around them quite nicely.

“They’re very simple. It’s a bedroom one end, bathroom in the middle, basically, and kitchen, living at the other end.

“We’re hoping that within the next couple of months they will make an appearance down here.”
