Heartfelt video shares grief of crash loss
The sister of a car crash victim has shared the grief of losing a loved one in a heartfelt video posted online.
Lauren Jackson spoke about the heartache of losing her 18-year-old brother Connor – who died after a crash on Mornington Road, near Collie, on May 20 last year – in an emotional three-minute video.
It was released by the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West during last week’s Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign, which coincided with Road Safety Week.
Since being posted, the video had reached about 90,000 people online and been shared nearly 500 times on Facebook.
“It is important for people who watch it to take note,” Ms Jackson told the South Western Times.
“People think road trauma can’t happen to them, but it can.”
Connor, a longtime Collie resident, was a Harvey Agricultural College graduate who was working as an apprentice mechanical fitter.
Ms Jackson, 22, said Connor’s death had a major affect on his family, friends and workmates in the past 12 months and she hoped the video would prompt people to drive safely.
“We have a close-knit family and they have been extremely moved by the video,” she said.
“I hope it has made a difference and people are taking note.”
There have been 60 fatalities across the State so far in 2017, with 34 on regional roads.
