New service aiming to improve quality of life
Silver Chain has launched a new service to maintain independence and quality of life for people experiencing a gradual decline in health.
The not-for-profit group made the “short-term restorative care” package available on May 1, exclusive to South West and Great Southern residents.
It is designed for people who have experienced a sudden event or are enduring a gradual decline in health to help them get “back on their feet”.
Community care manager Robyn Jones said the service was individually tailored and catered for clients’ demands and needs.
“It’s an eight-week program helping people get back on their feet,” Mrs Jones said. “It’s for people who’ve had a slow decline, a fall or are feeling like they can’t do what they used to do.
“It’s to optimise their independence and find out what they want in a package – it’s quite exciting.”
The package can include the provision of services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing support and personal care.
Silver Chain social care general manager Anne-Marie Cox said it aimed to give clients confidence for independent living.
Mrs Jones said a general practitioner could refer people to the group’s Aged Care Assessment Team to determine if they were eligible.
Mrs Jones urged anyone interested to contact 1300 345 883 for more information.
