Slammers women to take on double header as seasoned players return to the roster
The South West Slammers women’s side is still hungry for a victory heading into round four as they brace for a clash with the undefeated Joondalup Wolves in this weekend’s double-header.
Going down to the Eastern Suns 42-82 in Saturday night’s game, there were still a lot of positives to be taken from the night.
A young side with limited NBL1 experience, it was clear the team was moving better together as a unit and absorbing feedback from coach Alex Ciabattoni at every break to come out with guns blazing.
Heading into the weekend, the side will see the return of experienced team members Bree Chalk and Grace Adams along with athletic forward Addison Edwards who are yet to take the court with the side this season having been away at the Basketball Australia Under 18s National Championships.
After a solid defensive performance at the weekend, pulling in 36 rebounds and drawing several offensive rebounds from the opposition, the return of these guards will likely help the team’s overall offensive play while Adams’ height will add to the side’s post numbers.
Also missing from last week’s game was pocket rocket Sierraleone Simpson, a top scorer in the side’s season opener against Mandurah Magic, who would undoubtedly be a welcome return to the court this weekend.
Taking on Lakeside Lightning in Perth of Friday, it is the clash against Joondalup Wolves at home on Saturday which should be the side’s top concern, looking to shut down power trio Robbi Ryan, Teige Morrell and Neseya Parker Williams — each hitting double figures on the scoreboard with Parker Williams making a double double with 15 rebounds to her name.
