Thunderstorms, hail and even light snow could fall in parts of WA on Thursday as a cold front sweeps the State.

The Bureau of Meteorology expects a “very cold day” on Thursday, with a possible thunderstorm and small hailstones forecast to hit the metro area in the morning and early afternoon.

Meteorologist Jonathan How said the South West could even experience light snowfall.

“(On Wednesday night) we see showers easing for a short period across South West WA,” Mr How said.

“With these two systems coming up from the south, we see showers re-intensify into Thursday and it will be a very cold day on the way.

“We see that cold front pushing through the South West of the state with local hail and there is a possibility of snow flurries about the Stirling Ranges in the far south of the state.

Mr How said Perth will be the coldest capital city in Australia on Thursday, reaching a top of just 16C.

Brisk winds are expected on the south coast and will push all the way up into the Gascoyne and Pilbara areas.
