A constant for many regional Western Australians throughout decades of great change, beloved 7 Regional News weather presenter Shauna Willis has said goodbye after 35 years with the network.

A regional woman at heart, the veteran presenter got her start as a receptionist in her hometown of Albany, before moving through script writing, commercial production, presenter for children’s program The Saturday Club to finally news reporting where she has remained as a face on regional screens since the 1980s.

Giving her final report last Wednesday night, Ms Willis told the South Western Times it was a “privilege” to be part of the regional community for so long.

“It’s hard to imagine that so many decades have gone past and here I am now moving on to grand new adventures,” she said.

“I’m a country girl at heart, I love living in regional WA, I think it’s the best place on earth.

The network took to social media to honour her departure, Ms Willis admitting she was “overwhelmed” by the thousands of reactions and comments she received.

“Let’s be honest, I was pretty overwhelmed by all the love, and support and all the beautiful commentary,” she confessed.

“It’s not something I thought about but then I started seeing comments from people that I thought about how lucky I am that I’ve been involved and supported personally and professionally in the community through the media.”

Looking ahead, Ms Willis said she would be having a “well-earned” rest, expressing sincere gratitude for her time on air.

“I’m in no rush, I’m going to smell the roses, I’ve all the time in the world,” she said.

“I’m thankful for the great adventure I’ve had - it’s been a wonderful opportunity, I’ve met some amazing people and I’m grateful to have had the decades.”
