'Act of Cruelty' shocks SW school

A water feature donated to College Row School - a school that caters for primary and secondary students with disabilities - has been stolen.

Staff from the school in South Bunbury reported the stolen water feature to police shortly after arriving at work on Monday morning.

The feature is a ceramic water fountain design of two hands holding a ball.

It was donated to the school by the family of a graduating student about a year ago.

Principal Cale Begley said the theft was a "disappointing act of cruelty".

"The water feature was part of a facelift given to our school entrance with generous donations of time, money and services from families and local businesses," he said.

"It is really disheartening to see these acts of kindness and generosity spoilt by the theft of the main feature."

Tyre tracks could be seen in the surrounding garden, with the thieves clearly needing a vehicle to move the bulky feature.

Mr Begley said the thieves even took the pump and wiring for the feature.

He said teachers and parents had been extremely disappointed by the theft.

"In a school like this you do get a lot of donations and generous people," he said.

"It's just really disappointing that people donate a lot of time, money and effort - and someone just takes that away.

"It would mean a lot to our school community if those who stole the water feature would return it."

South West police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
