AFL Draft: West Coast Eagles select former Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault- Lion Brady Hough on draft night two

Brady Hough has shot up the draft board and is now a West Coast Eagles player. The Eagles took Hough with pick 31 in the second round of the draft on Thursday night, making him the second South West pick taken. The Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault product is the second South West player taken after Busselton’s Jye Amiss landed at Fremantle with pick eight. The Peel Thunder midfield-forward was playing senior football in the South West Football League as recently as this season, but a stunning debut season at WAFL colts level put him firmly on the radar of AFL clubs. He featured for the State under-19s side this year, was named in the WAFL colts team of the season, and made a shock senior debut in the final round of the season for the Thunder. West Australian talent expert Mick Ablett told Fox Footy Hough continued a long line of talent from the region. “He comes from the same pathway as Jye Amiss who we saw last night taken by Fremantle,” he said. “They were the two players who stood out coming from that South West region. “He just provides a really difficult match-up — I remember watching him and thinking ‘this kid has some footy smarts’. “He just sees things unfold that split-second earlier than others and he is just as adept at ground level ... but he is quite strong in the air as well.” He revealed earlier this year he had been interviewed by Eagles recruiters, who visited his home in Harvey. He becomes the fourth West Australian player taken by the two local clubs in the draft. He joins former Eaton Boomer Isiah Winder and son of Carey Park product and Swan Districts life member Steve Bazzo, Rhett, who was taken by the Eagles with pick 37. Fellow South West prospects James Tunstill and Kade Dittmar remain on the draft board. Amiss last night became the first South West player to be taken inside the top 10 since former HBL player Anthony Morabito.
